The Kirkpatrick clan takes its name from the church of Saint Patrick in the parish of Closeburn in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Today Kirkpatricks have settled across the globe but originally this famous family inhabited the Anglo-Scottish borders in a lawless area that become known as the Debatable Lands. Here clan and family loyalty was held above all other allegiances and the rule of law and power of Kings but a distant rumour.
